Good Morning! Acts 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of
Nazareth with the Holly Spirit and power, and how HE WENT AROUND DOING GOOD and healing all those who were under the power of
Satan, because God was with him. There are many places in the Bible where it tells us to do good. In Matt 5:44 it tells us, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, DO GOOD to those who hate you. Also check out Luke 6:27-35 and Gala 6:10 and Heb 13:16. But let me ask you this, Do you know someone or maybe its you? That goes around doing Good all the time, but does not really have a true relationship with Jesus Christ? I know a few people that think just because you are a Good Person and you don't do anything to hurt anyone and you are always being helpful, that they think they will get to heaven by being this way. In John 14:6 Jesus tells us, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." So you see we can go around doing good and helping people all day long, but unless we are doing it out of Love, a Love that can only be found in Jesus Christ we are not doing it for the right reason. Now I know there will be those who argue that if you do Good and don't steal and lie and live a Good life or as some say a Good Christian Life, your on your way to Heaven. But as Jesus used to say! "I tell you the truth!, this is just not so. You must have a Relationship with the Son who in turn brings you to the Father who then gives you the Holy Spirit. If you look at the first part of
today's Vs it says God anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit and power. And that is what gave Jesus the power and us the power to do good, even to our enemies. I know for me it is only the Holy Spirit that helps me do good. Cause believe me it is not in my character to be that way. So what about those people who do good but don't believe? I hate to tell you this and them to, but it is just another ploy by
Satan to
deceive them. You cannot get to Heaven by the deeds or works you do. You can only get there through a belief in Jesus Christ. That He died for you and then rose again for you and me. And it is through him we will want to Do Good and spread the Good News! Doing good can be a way of life for some people. And that is Good! But if they do not know Jesus, I just don't know what to say. So today ask yourself, Why do you do good? Is it to be of help to others as Jesus was. Or is it just because you think if you do that will get you to Heaven. Being a Good person does not
guarantee you will go to Heaven, but a Relationship with Jesus will. And with His Spirit you will be doing Good for the right reasons. In Matt 5:16 Jesus said, " In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven." When you are Doing Good for the right reasons people will know! And the Father will to.
HABD!
I like this devotion today. I know many that will say I am good,I am going to heaven. With out Jesus in your heart I'm sorry to say your action/deeds are worthless, they are nice but worthless when it comes to getting to heaven. Being good isn't good enough.
ReplyDeleteIt also works the other way Faith without Action is useless or dead.
James 2:14-25
14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
18 But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.”
Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. 19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.
20 You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless[d]? 21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,”[e] and he was called God’s friend. 24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.
25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
